Life at the Heart of Cleveland

Cleveland State University offers an unparalleled urban experience. Located in the heart of downtown, our campus serves as a gateway to the city’s most iconic districts, professional sports, and a world-class arts scene, all within walking distance or a short transit ride away.

Walkable Entertainment & Culture
  • Playhouse Square: Located just steps away from campus, this is the largest performing arts center in the United States outside of New York City. Interns can enjoy touring Broadway shows, concerts, and comedy acts.
  • Gateway District: A 10-15 minute walk or quick trolley ride brings you to Progressive Field (Guardians baseball) and Rocket Arena (Cavaliers basketball and Monsters hockey).
  • Rock & Roll Hall of Fame: Explore the history of music at this world-renowned landmark on the scenic shores of Lake Erie, just a mile from the university.
Dining & Social Hubs
Exploring the Neighborhoods

Beyond downtown, Cleveland's most popular neighborhoods are easily accessible:

  • Ohio City: Home to the historic West Side Market, local breweries, and incredible food.
  • University Circle: A 15-minute ride on the HealthLine takes you to "Ohio's Most Spectacular Square Mile," featuring the Cleveland Museum of Art (free admission!) and the Botanical Garden
  • Edgewater Park: For those who love the outdoors, Edgewater offers a beachfront, pier, and skyline views just a few miles west.

Getting Around with Ease

Cleveland State is a hub for the Greater Cleveland RTA.

  • The HealthLine: This state-of-the-art Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) runs directly along Euclid Avenue, providing 24/7 service between Public Square and University Circle.

  • Free Trolleys: The "Smile & Ride" green trolleys offer free loops around the downtown business and entertainment districts.

  • Sustainable Options: Interns can take advantage of shared e-scooters and bikes (Bird, Lime, and Spin) parked throughout campus for quick trips across the city.
