Powhatan Village (Apartment-Style)

Powhatan Village offers a unique "neighborhood" feel on the west side of campus, perfectly situated for interns who enjoy the outdoors. These apartments are just a short walk from the Elizabeth River boardwalk, the ODU Sailing Center at Whitehurst Beach, and campus sand volleyball courts.

Rates: $42 per night, which includes access to the Student Recreation Center

  • Layout: Each apartment features one person per bedroom (housing two interns total)
  • Private Amenities: Units include 1.5 bathrooms (one full bathroom with a shower/tub and a separate half-bath), a carpeted dining room, and a full living room.
  • Full Kitchen: Apartments come equipped with a full kitchen, providing interns the flexibility to prepare their own meals.
  • Bedroom Furniture: Each resident is provided with an adjustable extra-long twin bed, a desk with a chair, a dresser, and a walk-in closet with built-in shelving.
  • Climate Control: All intern housing units are fully air-conditioned.
  • High-Speed Wi-Fi: Wireless internet and streaming TV services are provided throughout all residential buildings.
  • Laundry Facilities: On-site laundry rooms are located in every complex. Machines are pay-per-cycle via coins or a mobile app; specific app details and pricing are provided at check-in.
  • 24/7 Security & Support: Enjoy peace of mind with 24-hour information desks, secured ODU ID card access, and on-call maintenance.
  • Complimentary Gym Membership: Your summer stay at ODU includes a full membership to the Student Recreation Center. Take advantage of state-of-the-art fitness equipment, an indoor pool, and a rock-climbing wall at no additional cost.

Payment & Reservation Policy 

To ensure your housing is secured and your check-in process is seamless, please adhere to the following timeline and requirements:

  • Strict Housing Window: All summer intern housing is restricted to the May 30, 2026, to August 2, 2026 window. Early arrivals and late departures cannot be accommodated due to campus turnover and maintenance schedules.

  • Reservation Deadline: All housing requests must be submitted at least 10 days prior to your scheduled arrival date.

  • Payment in Full: The total payment for your stay must be made no later than 3 days before your check-in date.

  • Check-In Requirement: Please note that keys will not be issued at check-in unless your balance is paid in full.

  • How to Pay: All payments must be made securely online through the official ODU Conference Services site.

STUDENT RECREATION CENTER: Interns receive a complimentary membership to this 15,000 sq. ft. facility, which includes a multi-lane indoor pool, indoor climbing wall, and state-of-the-art fitness equipment.

OUTDOOR SPORTS: On-campus basketball courts, tennis courts, and soccer fields are available for recreational use.

  • Naval Station Norfolk: Just a short drive north of ODU is the largest naval base in the world. Interns can take a guided bus or boat tour to see the massive aircraft carriers and destroyers that call this historic port home.

Transportation Options

Getting around Norfolk and the greater Hampton Roads area is convenient, with several options for campus-specific travel and regional exploration.

  • Bikes & Scooters: Through a partnership with Lime, dockless electric scooters and e-bikes are available throughout the campus and the City of Norfolk. Simply download the Lime app to find a nearby ride

  • Hampton Roads Transit (HRT): For travel into the city, HRT Route 2 and Route 4 connect the ODU campus directly to the Downtown Norfolk Transit Center (DNTC).

  • The Tide (Light Rail): Norfolk’s light rail system, The Tide, runs from the Eastern Virginia Medical Center (EVMC/Fort Norfolk) through downtown to Newtown Road. It is a great way to reach the Waterside District and Harbor Park.

  • Elizabeth River Ferry: A unique way to travel! Pedestrian ferries run every 30 minutes between the Norfolk Waterside and Portsmouth, offering a scenic view of the waterfront and the naval shipyard.

  • Train (Amtrak): The Norfolk Amtrak Station is located approximately 4 miles from campus (near Harbor Park). It offers daily service to Richmond, Washington, D.C., and the Northeast Corridor.
