Christine Johnson shared her 2026 summer internship experience in Washington, D.C.:
Living and interning in D.C. was such a meaningful and foundational experience in that season of my life. Going from growing up in a small community to living right behind the Supreme Court in the heart of our nation’s capital felt surreal. That season taught me so much, pushed me outside of my comfort zone, and paved the way for experiences I never could have expected.
The culture in D.C. is unlike anywhere else I’ve lived. It’s a city filled with politicians, finance guys, lobbyists, journalists, interns, and, of course, your regular average Joe. Being surrounded by people from so many different backgrounds and walks of life opened my eyes to new perspectives and taught me the value of stepping outside what is familiar.
One of my biggest prayer requests before moving was that the Lord would provide fruitful, intentional community—and wow, did He overdeliver. Kings Church brought some of the best friends into my life and gave me one of the strongest, most intentional communities I have ever been a part of. I’m incredibly grateful for the people who made D.C. feel like home.
Big-city life definitely has its ups and downs, but overall, D.C. was an incredible experience that shaped me personally, professionally, and spiritually. I’ll always be grateful for that season and will always recommend living somewhere completely different from what you’re used to at least once in your life.
