Lauren Whittier shared her 2025 summer internship experience at CDM Smith in Boston, MA, while staying at Suffolk University:
During summer 2025, I interned at CDM Smith's global headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts. This was my third internship, but m
y first time interning and living outside Florida and in such a big city. Moving out of state with few personal connections felt challenging, but I used the Intern Housing Hub website to compare university options and subleasing.
Through this site, I found Suffolk University, which offered temporary housing for summer interns and accepted graduate-level students as residents. Living in these dorms completely shaped my internship experience and gave me the best summer, from move-in to move-out! Its central location meant I could walk to work in the Financial District in 10 minutes, and I also had access to some of Boston's favorite neighborhoods within minutes because of the walkability, plus I was next to the most convenient T lines.
This internship experience allowed for both personal and professional growth as I was able to see the work of fields like sustainability, urban planning, engineering, and GIS applied to the real world, both at work and in my everyday life. Getting to work and live like this made my career dreams and goals seem attainable, possible, and fun!"
